Dr. Brotherton completed her pre med requirements and undergraduate degree in Spanish and Portuguese at U.C. Berkeley. Her wanderlust and undergraduate degree took her to medical school in Mexico at the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara. After completing a year at New York Medical College, she completed her residency at Stamford Hospital/Columbia University where she fell in love with surgery. In Connecticut, Dr. Brotherton was first introduced to Assisted Reproductive Technologies and fertility sparing surgeries. She went on to complete a Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery Fellowship at the Center for Pelvic Health at Celebration Health/Florida Hospital in Orlando, Florida under the tutelage of her mentor, Dr. Steven McCarus.
After completing her fellowship in 2007, Dr. Brotherton accepted a position at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center where she started the Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery program in the Department of Ob/Gyn. With hard work and dedication, Dr. Brotherton, created a program to train her 20 residents a year in Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery options for their uninsured, largely underserved patients of Los Angeles County. In 2010 and again in 2018, she received the C.R.E.O.G. National Faculty Teaching Award for Excellence in Resident Education. From 2012 to 2020, Dr. Brotherton worked with the AAGL Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery Fellowship at Las Vegas Minimally Invasive Surgery. Through her residents and fellows, Dr. Brotherton has helped train the next generation of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgeons.
In addition to minimally invasive treatment options for fibroids and ovarian masses, Dr. Brotherton has always had a particular interest in the treatment of endometriosis and fertility sparing options for women. In 2018 she completed a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training and is particularly interested in providing a holistic approach to fertility, women’s health, and overall wellness. She is passionate about patients understanding their options and encourages women to consider egg freezing as a proactive means of empowerment.
Dr. Brotherton speaks Spanish fluently. When she is not in the operating room, Dr. Brotherton enjoys doing yoga, traveling, exercising and, of course, cheering for her beloved Cal Bears football team! She is happy to be back in the Bay Area to be able to spend more time with her family, especially her two nephews, one of whom is human and the other whom has four legs.
